BcmA invites you to come, celebrate the art of the Chinese Calligraphy and enjoy a glass of wine with the artist. Flowing means to float with your heart.
Did you ever want to understand the art of Chinese Calligraphy? Learn about the secrets these ancient Characters conceal? Their origins? Their meaning? Their spirit? Curated in cooperation with the visiting Taiwanese art collective More Ink Between, exhibition FLOWING will celebrate and demystify the art of Chinese calligraphy and deepen the perspectives from which we can understand and appreciate it, while focusing on the movement and visual interpretation.
For centuries, Chinese calligraphy has been praised as a supreme form of channeling one’s unique connection with your spirits, as well as for its captivating beauty. Carefully, yet freely orchestrated brush movements serve as a translation of life dynamics and spiritual forces. The art of calligraphy does not take pride in fancy formality and skills, but connects the artist to the nature, inner spirit and his/her origins. Relying heavily on the philosophy of Daoism, Chinese calligraphy enables the artist to strive for a superior state, where external and internal freedom connect and blur the border between subject and object. “The Way (Dao)” is to cultivate one’s mind. “The Art (also Skill/Yi)” is to temper one’s skill. “The Beauty (Mei)” is to embellish the life.
Thoughtfully curated mix of dance, art performances and calligraphy works will enable visitors to comprehend the entirety of the FLOW of calligraphy. Rather than merely showcasing works, this exhibition offers an inclusive calligraphy experience through several workshop which will be open for public, free of charge. Besides calligraphy, in the frame of FLOWING there will be workshops about mediation, as well as dance improvisation. All workshops are free of cost. There is no need to apply, just come!
