Isa Melsheimer ofter refers in her work to architectial remains or ruines. For this specific work she refers to a painting called “Die Toteninsel” of the swiss painter Arnold Böcklin. “Die Toteninsel” is based on an old Italian legend about a deceased person who steps into his own coffin. The organic amorph shapes hanging over the archictectual shapes remind us on death plants hanging down. As if they transforming into something else. Like the dead person in the painting is getting ready to transform and leave the earth plane to go to another world.
