Porcelain
Size: 21 x 29,7 cm
My work deals with notions around extensive material manipulation through intricate handmade works inspired by natural phenomena, growth, pattern and decay. The starting point of this series is the transformation of a white sheet of paper by unfolding an increasing number of folds. The emerging pattern, increasingly chaotic, gradually distorts the surface.
The leftover traces of the eventually crumbled surface are permanently recorded onto extremely thin porcelain sheets. Where paper is ephemeral, soft and resilient, porcelain is durable, rigid and fragile, while they are both sharing the same notion of whiteness and purity.
