OUT OF LOVE WITH LOVE  | Units of Measurement

Under the mentorship of gender specialist Lorena Juan Gutiérrez, in this exhibition Angela Kaisers and Laura G. Jones explore the personal observations, repetitions, and variables that describe the dynamics of measuring romantic love by comparison with either external standards or individual experiences. In a non prescriptive way, the artists address an unstable metric system created by a set of elements through which they analyze their emotions and relationships. The questions risen by this process result in a deconstruction of romantic ideals imposed by capitalist society.

Exhibition Opening: Nov 21st – 7pm Exhibition Closing: Dec 6th – 7pm OPENING TIMES: 3 – 8pm

About the artists and mentor:

Lorena Juan Gutiérrez – www.covenberlin.com Currently writes her PhD dissertation on gender roles and women’s representation on the Internet. She is also the co-founder and editor-in-chief of COVEN Berlin, and therefore responsible for the written content and conceptual arrangement of the collective. She works transdisciplinary with gender, age, sex and race issues, as well as body politics and immigration affairs.

Angela Kaisers –  www.angelakaisers.com In her work Angela reflects on her observations of interpersonal relationships, people’s (conscious and unconscious) behavior towards each other and specific situations or emotions they are confronted with. Additionally, she is concerned with different aspects of life and society in the US of the 1960s, with a concentration on politics, gender studies and art. Constellations, patterns and plots arise and form – and are translated into collages, installations, photo series and texts. The creative process or method of production of the works can be compared to an abstract hybrid of a scientist and a writer – researching and accumulating information and ideas, experiments and experiences that build a scheme, a storyline. It is up to the viewer – the examiner, the reader – to partake and to put the puzzle pieces of those findings and stories together.

Laura Genevieve Jones – yonabout.hotglue.me Originally from a dance and performance background, Laura works mainly with video, exploring habitual movement and every day patterns and sensations: the extraordinary within the ordinary. Laura’s work invites an alternative perspective on seemingly banal situations and objects promoting a haptic and sometimes erotic response in the viewer.
